There are a few different ways to get involved with Queer Salsa — whether you want to support the community at events, help us run things behind the scenes, or step into teaching and leadership.

Guardian Dancing

Guardian dancers are slightly more experienced dancers who help students and attendees get involved, feel confident, and have fun on the dance floor. They’re an extra friendly presence at events — keeping an eye out for welfare issues, but mainly helping people connect and dance.

Pay: voluntary. Guardian dancers get free access to the event/class they’re guardianing, and earn Volunteer Credits for each hour (to use towards future classes).

Hosting (paid and volunteer)

Hosts are the practical support that helps events run smoothly — set-up, tickets/check-in, timekeeping, and generally overseeing welfare on the night.

Pay: hosts are usually paid. Volunteer hosts are in training/shadowing roles.

Teaching

Teachers lead classes, courses, and workshops, and help shape our learning spaces. We book teachers in advance for specific events and programmes.

Pay: teaching is paid — see Teaching Roles & Rates.

Steering Group (attend/observe)

Steering Group meetings are open to community members to attend and observe. This is one way we keep Queer Salsa transparent. You can see how decisions are made and how we organise the work.
